FileZen Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how FileZen (whose project code name is FilesApp) handles data when you use local file management, remote services, previews and playback, transfers, background uploads, and advertising.
No developer file server: Except for the third-party services described below, the developer does not operate a backend that collects your files, cloud credentials, remote-server credentials, or in-app activity. Your files are not routed through a developer-operated server.
1. Data processed by FileZen
Depending on the features you choose to use, FileZen processes the following data on your device:
- Local and externally mounted file contents, names, and folder structures.
- Remote server addresses, ports, root paths, usernames, passwords, and authentication tokens.
- Cloud account display names and account identifiers, such as an email address returned by a cloud provider.
- Remote file metadata, including names, paths, sizes, types, and modification dates.
- Favorites, music playlists, upload and download records, preview data, thumbnails, and caches.
- Player, editor, display, and app preference settings.
- Operational logs kept on the device for troubleshooting.
Favorites and music playlists store a server identifier and a logical relative path. When you access an item, FileZen resolves it using the current configuration for that server.
2. Local storage and security
- OneDrive, Box, and Baidu Netdisk refresh tokens are stored by cloud provider and server identifier in the iOS Keychain using a device-only protection level that becomes available after the first unlock. These tokens do not migrate through device backups.
- Other server configuration, transfer records, and preferences are stored in the app container on your device.
- Caches and temporary files are created only as needed for features you request, such as previewing, playing, editing, exporting, uploading, or downloading.
- A connection to an HTTP server or another unencrypted endpoint that you configure may not provide the same transport protection as HTTPS.
3. Remote servers and cloud storage
When you add and use AList, WebDAV, SFTP, SMB, OneDrive, Box, Baidu Netdisk, or another supported service, FileZen communicates directly with that service to perform actions you request, such as authentication, directory listing, file access, upload, download, range reads, preview, playback, copy, move, rename, or deletion.
OneDrive, Box, and Baidu Netdisk sign-in pages are provided by the respective provider. FileZen receives the tokens required to complete the authorization and may retrieve an account display name, email address, or account identifier so you can identify the saved connection. File content and metadata are sent only to the server or cloud provider you select and are not relayed through a developer-operated server.
Your use of a third-party cloud provider is also governed by that provider's privacy policy and account controls.
4. Background uploads
When you explicitly add a file to the background upload queue, FileZen copies the selected file into a dedicated staging directory under Application Support so iOS can resume the task after suspension or relaunch. The staging directory and payload files are marked as excluded from iCloud and iTunes backups.
- Staged payloads are deleted immediately after a successful upload, cancellation, or deletion of the upload record.
- A payload is retained while its task is paused or failed so you can retry it.
- Remaining app data is removed when you uninstall FileZen, subject to iOS behavior.
- A background task uploads only to the destination service that you selected.
5. Advertising and Google Mobile Ads
FileZen uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK to display banner ads and rewarded ads that you choose to open. It uses Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) to gather and manage advertising consent where applicable. FileZen initializes and loads ads only when UMP indicates that ads can be requested. When Google requires a privacy-options entry point, you can review or change your choices from Settings. The SDK may process data such as:
- Coarse location inferred from an IP address.
- Device or app identifiers available under iOS settings and the applicable consent state.
- Ad impressions, ad interactions, and product interaction data.
- Crash, performance, and other diagnostic information.
Google may use this information for third-party advertising, advertising measurement, analytics, security, and fraud prevention. FileZen currently does not request App Tracking Transparency permission and does not itself request access to the IDFA. The identifiers available to Google still depend on iOS settings, Google SDK behavior, and any consent choices applicable in your region.
For more information, see How Google uses information for advertising and Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Sharing and developer access
The developer does not sell your files, account information, or connection credentials and cannot remotely access data kept only in your app container or Keychain. Data is sent to another party only when necessary to provide a feature you request, including:
- Your selected remote server or cloud provider.
- Apple system services that you invoke, such as system sharing, document picking, or App Store transactions.
- Google for displaying and measuring ads.
Operational logs remain on your device unless you deliberately share them, for example through a system share sheet or email.
7. Retention, deletion, and your choices
- Server configurations and related Keychain tokens are kept until you delete that server. Deleting a cloud server also deletes its stored refresh token.
- Upload and download records are kept until you delete them. Cache and preview files remain until FileZen removes them automatically, you clear them in cache management, or you uninstall the app.
- You can remove local data by deleting server configurations, transfer records, local files, and caches in FileZen.
- To delete files already uploaded to a third party, close a third-party account, revoke cloud authorization, or exercise choices over provider-side logs or advertising data, use the controls offered by the relevant provider.
8. Children and sensitive content
FileZen is not directed specifically to children under 13. Minors should use the app with guidance from a parent or guardian. Consider carefully before processing personal, confidential, or other sensitive content through remote services, background upload, system sharing, or advertising features.
9. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when app features, third-party SDKs, data practices, or legal requirements change. The current effective date will be shown on this page and in the app.

Google Mobile Ads
